Beat The Commute - Take A Bike

With 2012 heralding yet another hike in travel costs, it may be a good time to investigate other means of making the journey to and from work.

At Avanta, we want to make it as easy, and as clear, as possible for our clients, and visitors, to get to our centres.  That’s why, in addition to detailed public transport information, we also list Barclay’s bike scheme docking stations close to our central London serviced offices on our website.

Using our business centre on Charlotte Street W1 as an example, having two docking stations within easy reach make this form of transport a viable option for getting to work.  It is also kinder on the wallet than the tube considering, for example, the journey from Charing Cross to our Charlotte Street centre takes approximately 11 minutes and therefore users would only require the access fee to be paid for the bike.

In addition, using the Barclay’s bikes not only contributes towards the effort to reduce London’s carbon footprint but also helps individuals to stay healthier, which benefits both the employee and employer.  This is due to the suggestion of a direct link between employees who are more physically active before work, for example cycling to work, and a reduced level of absenteeism. In a review completed by Dr Adrian Davis, specialist in transport and psychology, it is stated that those who partake in exercise before work are less likely to become ill and therefore less likely to take time off due to illness.
